And that's a shame, because last night was a superb evening as far as football was concerned, as we easily saw off an improving Farnborough side in their own back yard.
So in my cant-be-fucking-arsed fashion, I will just list things in bullets points rather than properly constructing paragraphs.
- I initially wasn't going to drink for this one with it being the end of the month before pay-day for me, combined the fact Champ had banned alcohol on the coach. But with it being beautifully sunny, a scorching 18 odd degrees for mid-March I was persuaded by Fish to go down the Endeavour for a few cheeky jars of Fosters (a drink for REAL men). And what a smashing decision that turned out to be. A few beers in the sunshine with Fish, Sappo, Ben Mitchell and Doddy while we also ordered some cheesy chips; a delicacy that I had never tried before, despite being a huge supporter of both chips and cheese. I can confirm that this combination is absolutely spot on.
- Our free supporters coach departed at 5PM and true to Champ's request, I didn't attempt to bring any form of alcohol onto the coach. Instead, it was a litre of pepsi, a pack of four doughnuts and four cheese and onion rolls from morrisons. I'm quite ashamed to say, that being the fat fucking greaseball I am, I think I ate every single part probably before we were even half way there. Later on I would feel the bloatedness.
It wasn't the most lively of coach journeys (my first one in 2k12). Phil brought along Karl Pilkington's "An Idiot Abroad" series which I had never seen before. And man, it sucked. It might not have helped that I automatically hate anything that Ricky Gervais has involvement in. But from what I saw of it I generally didn't find it amusing, apart from when somehow chinese bloke started doing a dancing routine involving his penis and a stick.
Really it was just me, Sappo, Ben Mitchell and Malcolm BANTZing each other on the way up. Just the usual tedium of being a fat cunt that never gets laid, Malcolm being a spotty Charlton supporting dweeb, Ben Mitchell getting stick for killing Heather on Eastenders the previous evening while Sappo got caned for being the massive bullshitter that he is (usually referring to women).
We also entertained each other by reading each other sick, disgraceful and unacceptable yet amusing jokes from numerous internet sauces. You know the ones that make you wince but can't help but snigger at the same time? Yeah. - We arrived in the inbred part of Chumpshire around 7PM. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had reduced their admission prices by £2 to £10 (every little helps) as I was too sober to attempt a child or student price, particularly after encountering some jobs-worth last season that refused me.
And I tell you what, what a nice ground Cherrywood Road is for this division. Since our two visits their last season, they have replaced half of the seating in the Prospect Road End with terracing (very unusual these days!) and opened up their new seated stand behind the goal (but the top half isn't open due to in-completion of the roof). Its a really decent ground at all sides and is certainly one of my favourite in the league. My only few qualms with it is that the ground is in a shit location and only has 1 boozer nearby it, while I think the ground is too good and too big for Farnborough's crowds. I think it would be a ground better suited to someone like Woking, as Kingfield is pretty shitty apart from 1 abnormally large stand. I think the crowd was 402 last night, which is very piss-poor when you consider we had at least 100 there.
The bar was very nice inside too. Plenty of space and seating while it provided a pool table and a dart board. Only problem here was the lack of staff behind the bar and thus a long queue to get my pint of Fosters, which I didn't really enjoy due to my doughnut stuffed body playing up.
Then in the few minutes before the match us lads began playing a game of keep-ups near the turnstile after Foady found a plastic ball in the streets. This was good fun and even the steward joined in with us on this one! Normally the arseholes in this league would immediately confiscate it. - WOWZERS! What a terrific first half this was. I was still setting up my flags at the back of the stand (but still watching the game) when Simpemba powerfully connected with his head from a free-kick and the ball looped into the back corner. The game wasn't even the full three minutes old!
What a signing he has been. We played some more marvellous stuff on the deck and our move for the second goal was just exquisite. Purcell intercepted and played the ball into Southam, who received the ball and spread it to Simmonds on the left hand side. He eventually dinked a superb cross that was beautifully met by Bricknell with an awesome diving header. 8 in 8 for Bricknell now, who when in-form and fit is certainly one of the best strikers at this level. Keep it up Billy.
We should of wrapped the game up before half-time when Bricknell squared to Simmo who only need to beat the two defenders in front of the goal, but he somehow managed to fluff his lines and blast the ball over.
That could have proved costly, because on the stroke of half-time Ruiz made an absolutely outstanding save from close range. - I was convinced in the second half that that Simmo sitter would come back to haunt us and prove to be the turning point in the game. I referred the others to our home game against Bath City back in 2003/2004. We were 3-0 up and cruising when Jamie Day missed a penalty and then missed the re-taken one for encroachment. We ended up drawing 3-3.
It was probably for that reason that I was nervous for the entire second half despite having no reason to be. They had a spell of pressure for the first 15 or so minutes after the restart but failed to produce anything threatening. From then on it was all Dover and we had numerous chances to extend our lead but we could not find that elusive third goal. The pick of the bunch was Billy scuffing a shot from the 6 yard box.
But the game remained 2-0. I didn't actually think Farnborough were too bad a side. They did actually try playing football but kept giving the ball away at key moments. Defensively though they were a shamble at times and we had no problems exposing their back-line, particularly when Dixon was introduced late on. Their goalkeeper was their reserve one and only looked about 16 years old as he was well under 6ft. He took some immense stick from us behind the goal but to be fair to the lad he took it well. "Can you even reach the touch bar keeps?" * Duly jumps and touches the crossbar* "You unprofessional twat, you should be concentrating on the game!"
But yeah, we played some awesome stuff last night and it makes me feel like a twat for moaning so much after Hampton last week when we had an off-night. The lads are really trying their best and are on a roll. We all need to stick together for the run in. Well done Dover. - Off-the-field BANTZ was flowing all evening. We were not very loud which was quite surprising and disappointing considering our impressive numerical turnout, but at the same time nobody is quite in the same mood as they are at the weekend. Well, i'm certainly not anyway.
The funniest part of the evening was the group of chavs that congregated near us in the second half. They were incredibly amusing. When you think of an exaggerated parody version of a chav they were genuinely that. They kept speaking like they were gangsters and remarked "We iz F-TOWN BLUD. FUCK YOU UP TOWN". We were just pissing ourselves laughing at them and kept ripping the piss out of them. "TWO NIL, AND YOUR CHAVS ARE SHIT" "You don't know who your dad is" "Does your mother know your here" ETC, etc.
Best of all they tried 'intimidating' us after the game by doing loads of gesturing. Whenever our lot whenever one of our lot went over to them they would back off yet keep gesturing for a fight. It was LOL-tastic, so tragic. The funny thing is they probably all went into school today boasting about their actions and how hard they are.
I'm sure something else funny also happened but I've had such a shit day that I've already forgotten. - The coach home went a lot quicker purely because we watched one of my favourite films that I never get bored of watching; Football Factory. But I didn't want to get back home early. I was scared to get home because my Dad wasn't there and Jared didn't turn up to the game so I couldn't invite him back to mine like I usually do. I despise staying at his gaff on my own because the house is more haunted than a really haunted place full of ghosts. With a disciplinary at work looming the following day this meant it took me ages to get to sleep, despite being very tired. Bad times all round. Yes I'm 20 years old and I'm still afraid of ghosts. Tragic, innit?
Right, we've got a run of home games coming up now haven't we? It seems like ages since we've played at Crabble on a Saturday. Well, it will have been almost a month when we take Staines on on Saturday. Its a game that nothing less than 3 points will do from, so the pressure means that either way I'm probably not going to enjoy it.
I'll leave you with some photos of the ground that I took. Once again, please forgive me for a bland blog this evening which could be so much better.
