Stadium Tour: Sporting CP

Stadium Tour: Estadio Jose Alvalade
Sporting CP
€10 Tour + Museum

I have to be honest I don't really know much about the background detail of what the divide between Sporting and Benfica is, what it is that seperated them culturally, politically or on footballing terms. It can't be much of a geographical divide between them as the stadium is only a few miles apart and linked by a direct road.

All I can say is that Sporting seemed to have more of a working class feel to it, in that I am essentially saying that was one of the few areas of Lisbon that had a shithole feel to, with some nasty grey housing blocks nearby and some grimy, littered passages.

The stadium itself is odd and features repugnant multi-coloured seats. I'm not sure what the thinking or design behind it is but overall I wasn't really enamoured by the place. I'm sure on matchday it's a completely different story, but hey ho.

The tour was slightly less detailed than Benfica's and they were far more restrictive on what we were allowed to photograph, but nonetheless it was an interesting visit.
