It was such a dull non-descript match that I had to just watch the highlights to jog my memory a little bit, where they can be viewed here. I have no idea how he managed to get 8 minutes worth of highlights out of it but fair play to him, his footage and editing is excellent. Massive shame that he wasn't filming when we thumped them 5-0 and 6-3 last season.
So our only real proper chance of the game fell to Harry Baker who had done well to break through, but fired straight at the goalkeeper. There was quite a lot of huff and puff from us but no real clear cut chances were created against a very poor Farnborough side that couldn't string more than 4 passes together at once. Mind you, neither could we.
So to hear Hayes speak out in the Dover Express today and slag off Dover fans for our performance, it is understandable to see why we're fucking fuming with him. According to him we affected the players performance by getting on the teams back. WTF? Sure, we sang a few anti-Hayes songs towards to the end of the game after another totally lacklustre performance but overall we got behind the team for the majority of the game and created one of our best home atmospheres in a long while. Still, Hayes blaming every single person other than himself is hardly news, is it?
I'm actually starting to worry for his mental health if he genuinely believes that we are doing just fine at the moment. In his interview with Kent Messenger he stated that we were really unlucky and our only problem at the moment is not sticking the ball into the back of the onion bag. Is he actually watching the fucking games? We're creating fuck all, we have no midfield! So what does he do? Releases Matt Johnson from his contract because he's annoyed that he's not getting any playing time. The one player who actually looks like he can unlock defences but Hayes would not play him because he's unfit. How the fuck is he supposed to get fit without playing time? I think we've potentially lossed a real gem there, but I don't blame him for leaving when he continiously has to see Cutler and Cogan get into the side before him.
Jim has got a big decision to make here but unfortunately it looks like he is continuing to back the hopeless clown. With a crowd of 785 on Tuesday night (it actually looked no more than 600) and our entire fanbase in dissaray you'd like to think that a bit of urgency would kick on. But judging by the end of the game, it doesn't look like he'll be getting rid any time soon :-( . He shook the players hands when trudging off the pitch and then decided to award Andy Makin with another ban from the club for venting his feelings at Paul Joynes, even though he was just one of many joining in. Its utterly shit the way Andy gets treated just because he clearly doesn't like him. Although with the way things are going right now, I'm sure he won't mind returning to watch the game from the trees rather than having to pay for that crap.
Who would I like to see replace Hayes if he ever does get the chop? The presence of Steve King (Lewes manager, not the Dover grammar P.E-do teacher) arose some rumours that Jim may be lining him up to replace Martin, but in all likelyness he probably was just there to scout and watch his ex-side play. Besides, I think Steve King is an utter STEVE EVANS, who has a track record of leaving his clubs in financial shit. BUT, he is a winner and I'd take any type of winner over our current buffoon. Jamie Day and Liam Daish are obvious fan picks but we'd have to break the bank to get either and it would be unlikely that either would currently want to take a sideways or backwards step. Rod Stinger is another that has been mentioned; thanks but no thanks to that, I don't want to see his vile brand of anti-football replicated here at Crabble. Peter Taylor? Been a failure at 80% of his managerial positions, no thanks. Justin Edinburgh would be a good pick for me; did an excellent job to get Rushden and Diamonds into the BSP on a shoestring budget a few seasons ago, and know the couple of Rushden lads at our club. People are sceptical of him because he is mates with Hayes and reccomended a few duff players like Aisen to us but in fairness he probably was only just trying to offload and find these lads new clubs, knowing that Hayes is naive enough to take on players without bothering to see them play. There are plenty of managers out there though and we could find the right one if we look properly. It would even be worth taking a punt on someone young and unproven until the end of the season such as Simon Wormull, just anyone to get him off of our hands.
Onto some of the anti Hayes songs last night. Among my favourites were "You should have gone after Dartford", "We're not Bishop Stortford", an over-the-top "You're killing our club, you're killing our club, fuck off back to Stortford, you're killing our club" and my favourite "Let's all do the Hayesy" whilst we all shrug and look around aimlessly. I do half-feel bad for singing such stuff but at the end of the day, he should just admit that he's not cut out for management at this level and he's out of his depth. Shane Huke didn't take too kindly to the anti-Hayesisms at the end of the game, seemingly giving us a V sign. Well Shane, maybe if he played you in centre-midfield where you belong then we might be doing a little bit better. Bricknell seemed angry to be replaced by the inneffective James Walker, which for the first time ever I was pleased by a player having a paddy if it means that it puts more pressure on Hayes. According to somebody on the forum, Walker said Hayes "What am I supposed to be doing, boss"? to which Hayes just shrugged to. Just about sums up his style of management: non existant.
Other than that it was a fairly enjoyable evening. Me and Champ both went out probably a little bit earlier than we should have done by getting to the Endeavour by half four. I managed to consume 7 (SEVEN) pints of stella before leaving for the game which was a bit of a disgrace on my behalf! It flowed down too well I'm afraid, but Champ was equally as bad. We managed to organise karaoke for Saturday night down the endeavour and arranged some plans for our pre-match drinks for Dave Bell on Saturday. Feel free to pop down and join everyone if you also knew and loved Dave. The minute silence of Tuesday night was an emotional one with a few tears but it's good to have such great company together where we can be there for each other at this difficult time. Dover til we die.
Finally, a big thank you to Reginald Harris for giving me a lift back to Herne Bay after the match again, it was very much appreciated. So I'll see you all on Saturday morning/midday in the old endeavour, and feel free to buy me a beer as it is my birthday tomorrow. Roll on another 0-0 draw and hopefully MH's last game, against Havant and Waterloggedville.
