Fan Profile [Edition 2] - Kieran Dodd

Hi again chaps. Our latest exciting question & answer session with Dover fans brings us to everybodys favourite darts player, Kieran Dodd. Doddy is sometimes accused of having a lack of charisma and excitement, which is a judgement you can decide if its harsh or not, but either way he love him anyway. He only really burst onto the scene last season but has been a regular for every home and away game since. We all have to start somewhere......

Starting with the basics...

Name? Kieran Dodd

Age? 20

Relationship status? Single

Family/Pets? Mum, step-dad and sister (+ her boyfriend if you include him as family). We used to have a load of pets but now we’ve only got two cats, a dog and quite a lot of fish!

Moving onto what’s important…

You support Dover Athletic. What got you into it? And what were you first home and away games?

I used to be a Liverpool fan as a kid but as I got older, I started to get bored of supporting a ‘big club’ and being an armchair fan, so I wanted to start seeing my local club and see how it would go. I loved every second of being a fan since then and I will never look back.

My first home game was against Ashford from Middlesex in the Ryman Premier League in September 2008. This was my first ever non-league game I’d ever been to so I was already into it when there was two goals in just 3 minutes! Frannie Collin got one of the goals and became an instant hero. The brilliant thing about this game was Ashford won every single game prior to their visit here, but after our entertaining 3-2 win(still seriously think it finished 4-2) over them, I think they ended up on quite a big losing sequence after that!

My first away game was Dartford away in December when we lost 3-1. I felt bitter about the result but it didn’t stop me from getting absolutely rat-arsed!

What is your favourite Dover match of all time?

Beating Tonbridge 3-2 away last season without a doubt. We were on the end of three consecutive home losses to three poor teams so we were all expecting a hammering against an in-form Tonbridge, but a Shane Huke header in the 88th minute sent us all ballistic!

If the answer to the above related to November 6th 2010, what would your second favourite? If it wasn't, then why wasn't it?

Because I never went to the game! I chose a darts open in Dover over the Gillingham game as I was well more into darts at the time so I’m genuinely gutted I made the wrong decision.

And the least favourite?

Losing 4-0 at home to lowly Staines last season. We were on superb form prior to the game and a win would have seen ourselves in a play-off spot as Chelmsford lost that day, but a purely dreadful performance against Staines was catastrophic, considering we had easily beat them on their own turf back in Christmas.

What is the best thing about DAFC and the matchday experience that would invite the ‘floater fans’ to Crabble more often?

I would say the fans, especially on away days, because without them, the match day experience would be completely different. Form is temporary, but match day experience is permanent.

Where do you see Dover Athletic in 5 years time?

I have no idea to be honest, hopefully we’ll be playing in the Conference by then but who knows.

Your favourite ever Dover goal?

Shane Huke’s header v Tonbridge last season. Enough said.

Who is your favourite Dover player of all time?

I would love to say Frannie Collin as he became an instant hero when I went to games during our Ryman Premier League days but I don’t think I went to enough games to fully support my case. So I would have to say Billy Bricknell; scored quite a lot of goals for us last season considering he spent some time out injured and was dynamite in the latter part of the season that almost clinched us a play-off spot. Nice guy too and nearly always responds to me on Twitter, even if he is a fan of Drake.

And your least favourite?

Jemal Johnson; I literally couldn’t believe we had signed him and I was really excited to see what he had to offer. In fact, I was 100% confident he would deliver, but no. Obviously thought he was too good for non-league football and was too lazy when it really mattered. Shame. Can’t believe he reportedly had a trial at Rochdale a few weeks ago.

Your most memorable away day?

Definitely Tonbridge away last season but I think you’re all getting bored of me repeatedly expressing my Tonbridge hype. So I would say Salisbury away; great day out on the piss considering there was only a small amount of us that travelled on the train and the game was quite poor in some respects, but you can’t beat an 86th minute Bricknell winner in a 1-0 victory! Cue manic celebrations and us singing “Bricknell 86! 86! Bricknell 86!” all the way home.

What do you consider the funniest off the pitch an on the pitch DAFC moments?

To be honest, I can’t really think of either! I don’t know whether this is my mind going completely blank or if I can’t physically think of funniest moments! Sorry!

How would you feel about the prospect of Dover moving to a new stadium, consider it will likely be out of town?

I’d feel quite sad about it because I love Crabble and it would be a pain in the arse travelling longer to home games. But if this would be completely beneficial for whatever reason, then I’m completely with the idea of this.

If you change anything about the club, what would it be?

The Centre Spot; although it has slightly improved this season thanks to cheaper lager and Sky television, the place is just such a dull place to be. Why not have dartboards, pool tables, quiz machines, fruit machines etc?

Is Nicky Forster the right man to lead us into the Blue Square Premier?
I think so, whether he will or not, I’m not sure, but he is certainly a decent enough manager who has a lot of contacts and has proven exactly that with some blistering signings like Steven Thomson from St Mirren and Calum Willock from Ebbsfleet United! Ricky Modeste is also proving to be a very good signing too.

And more football related shite....

Are you a vile two club wanker and if so which team is it? If not, who would you follow if you were not a DAFC fan?

Nope, although I used to support Liverpool during my younger days, but not anymore. If I could choose another club to support, it would probably be Charlton Athletic; relatively local for a Football League club and I generally have enjoyed going up there every time!

What's your favourite ever game as a neutral?

Man City 3-2 QPR, without a doubt. Seeing Man City 2-1 down at the 90th minute and then going on to clinch the title at the expense of Man United was just such a beautiful thing to watch.

My favourite game as a neutral that I’ve actually been to certainly has to be Charlton 2-3 Wolves in the 2007/2008 Championship season; it wasn’t a spectacular game for the most part of it but the last 10 minutes involved drama at its very best. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake scored what would be the Championship goal of the season to put Wolves 2-1 up but Charlton equalised in the 90th minute to send the home fans wild, only for Wolves to snatch it right at the end to see the away end go ballistic! Brilliant.

What are your favourite football grounds, both league and non-league that you have visited?

Obviously Wembley Stadium, need I say more about that. It’s just a shame their food is so expensive and unjustifiably crap! My favourite non-league ground other than Crabble would have to be Lewes; it’s so strange but I love it! On two sides of the ground is just grass banks that makes the ground more genuine. You’re also allowed to drink on the terraces, which is a bonus!

What footballers do you currently admire?

This might get a few frowns but I have to say Didier Drogba. Ok, I never used to stand him for being a diving little twat and being over-dramatic, but he recently stopped a war in Ivory Coast I think it was and I believe he also helped pay for some random kid’s cancer treatment. I became quite fond of him in the Champions League final as I was rooting for Chelsea to win. Scored a great header in the dying stages of the game just minutes after Thomas Muller had put Bayern ahead. And scoring the winning penalty was pretty special too.

And who do you consider to be the greatest of your lifetime?
Obviously Lionel Messi, the man is a joke! It’s quite incredible to think he’s already Barcelona’s all-time top goalscorer and he’s only 24/25! I think he also scored about 60 goals last season which is just phenomenal.

All time footballing villain(s)?

Ian Hendon; can’t stand that c***! He took the manager’s post at Dover after Hessenthaler left for Gillingham, only to resign about 15 days later and join Hessy as his assistant, not forgetting he bought some of our staff with him too I think!

Your favourite ever net bulger(s)?

Shane Huke (Tonbridge v DOVER)
Billy Bricknell (Salisbury v DOVER)
Sergio Aguero (MAN CITY v QPR)
Fernando Torres (Barcelona v CHELSEA)
Didier Drogba (Bayern Munich v CHELSEA)

General information…

What do you do for a living?

I'm an accounts assistant at Priority Freight Ltd and have been working there for nearly 3 years while studying at K College in Ashford to become an accountant.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of football?

I love darts and play for a few pub teams in Dover and Deal, although I’m pretty crap! My greatest moment was almost qualifying for the UK Open last year when I lost in the semi-final at Gillingham.

What are your favourite food(s)? And least favourite?

Battered sausages and chips from the chippie, takeaway pizza or beef curry and rice from the Chinese.
I'm also a bit of a weirdo that doesn't enjoy eggs or cheese.

And your favourite and least favourite alcoholic beverages?

I’ve always been a Fosters drinker, but I’ve recently discovered a new love for Peroni, an Italian lager, which my sister brought back from Italy. Shame not many places serve it because it is lovely.
Hurlimans is one drink that is really not on my radar.

How would you rate yourself on attractiveness?

Probably 6/10, not a great looking chap but not exactly ugly either. Pretty average and boring if you ask me.

Any relationship sob stories?

Quite a few, but I’m way too bitter to elaborate on those.

Who would be your ideal man/woman?

Obviously someone good looking and in a decent enough shape but most importantly someone with a great personality.

What’s your most embarrassing moment?

Too many to mention right here but I’ll just give a random example of my first day at Priority Freight when I was given a tour of the place by my boss and I slammed my head directly onto a garage door after missing the “watch your head” sign!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Same place hopefully, I love my job at the minute and wouldn’t want to swap it with any other job.

Who do you deem to be the worst human being on the planet at this moment in time and why?

Obviously people like Hitler/Bin Laden etc are just vile people but the worst human being right now is a lad under the name of @Rileyy_69 on Twitter who recently tweeted British Olympic diver Tom Daley “you’ve let your Dad down, I hope you know that” after his Dad died of a brain tumour last year, just moments after he lost out on a medal with Pete Waterfield. An extremely insensitive comment as it is but made even worse by the fact it was trolling on a social networking site which I cannot stand for the life of me. I’m sure his Dad would be proud of him to be ranked as one of the most vile human beings along with Liam Stacey who racially abused Fabrice Muamba on Twitter just moments after collapsing on the pitch and being technically dead for 78 minutes.

If you were to host a dinner party, what four dream guests would you invite?

I really don’t have a clue to be honest, so I’m just going to say Steven Gerrard, Noel Edmonds and the Gallagher boys for no reason whatsoever.

You have three bullets left in your AK47. Which celebrities do you choose to dispose of?

Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini. I’ll put a third bullet through whoever survives the first.

Finally, how great do you think Callum's blog is?

Really enjoyable and humorous to read despite a few spelling and grammatical errors there and then! 8/10
